Oh my Liege and Slap me happy

We ended up back in food truck land tonight and boy was it a wonderful trip.  SAM thoroughly enjoyed the "Major Cruchy Sandwich" from the SlapFish truck (http://www.slapfishsocal.com/index.html).  It is a grilled sea bass sandwich jam packed with pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, crunchy potato chips, and jalapeno sauce.  Not the best fish sandwich he has ever had (that award goes to El Pescador in La Jolla, San Diego), but certainly the best fish sandwich he has had in Orange County.  BAM had the "Crab and Brie Grilled Cheese."  "It was good and they did not skimp on the crab," says BAM.  MIL and ACC were starstruck and couldn't resist the Lime Truck (as seen on The Great American Food Truck Race on The Food Network - http://thelimetruck.com/lime/Home.html).  MIL went with the "Slammin Lambin," the Lime Truck's take on the lamb gyro.  She could not stop raving on how good the lamb was.  ACC went with the "Jane's Addiction Quesadilla."  This quesadilla has asparagus, prosciutto, and all sorts of cheeses and stuff.  Both were DELICIOUS.

The night's piece de resistance was the Waffles De Liege truck.  Simply put - the absolute best thing any of us have had eaten in years!  This truck imports their special ingredients from Belgium to create their perfect "Liege Waffles." Then they top their waffles not only with a variety of sauces and fruit that you choose but with "Fosselman's Ice Cream."  For those of you not in the know, "Fosselmans" is the best ice cream created in LA, So. Cal, California, the USA, the World, and possibly even the Universe.  You put it all together and you get, as Margie (MIL) said it, "That's some good shit!"  If that does not make you want to track this truck down, we don't know what will.

Overall, I will return to SlapFish and I will look forward to the next time I can eat at Waffles De Liege.  This was a trip to food truck land that continued to raise the bar on trips to food truck land.

Spud-tastic Tastes in Food Truck Land

Continuing our quest to try every food truck in Orange County, SAM and I stopped
off at a roundup in Brea accompanied by my niece, ACC.

Feeling the need for sugar, I opted for "Oh For Sweets Sake" and went for the
unique Sweet Potato cupcake topped with maple syrup frosting and bacon.
Excellent combination of flavors, but I've had this truck's cupcakes before and
I recommend getting yours earlier in the night as they are always fresher. ACC
and SAM each agree that we got their too late; however, not a crumb of their
Almond Joy and Coo Coo for Coconut cupcakes were left.

SAM went for something completely new as far as food truck main course fare goes
and was not disappointed. According to SAM, "'Spudrunners' takes french fries to
the next level with their Santa Fe Fries!" With SAM becoming something of a food
truck fries taste expert, that's a huge statement. ACC also went for fries but
chose "Bacon Mania's" Mac n Cheese fries. She was told upon ordering they'd be
"the best Mac n Cheese fries EVER!" Since ACC has no comparison as far as Mac n
cheese fries go, she's willing to agree for now. But, she also snagged some of
SAM's fries and raved about the dipping sauce and I saw her sneaking some of
that amazing sauce for her own fries.

All in all, we left this roundup happily full of tasty taters and hoping this is
not last we see of "Spudrunners."

The fair's fare is fair

Spent the day eating our way through the LA County Fair. Figuring we ate our fair share of Fair fare at Orange County, I (SAM) decided to go with LA County food trucks we can't always get in the OC. I was also working on my endless pursuit of the world's best Nachos. At first I was impressed with the carne asada nachos from the Macho Nacho truck but once I ate through the top layer I was a bit disappointed. It also sucked when I got a Shocktop and figured out it was a Raspberry Shocktop after I walked quite a bit away. BAM and MAL went with the banana nutella crepe and the veggie pesto crepe from Crepes Bonaparte. BAM also had our favorite fair fare - Tastie Chips. Both of these are great safe bets. MLL and KLL went with the Piaggio on Wheels milanessa sandwich and the porker sandwich. Both gave rave reviews. MIL did the tri tip sandwich- "horrible, with old meat and dry." Put it all together and we gave the LA County Fair a fair fare rating.

Factory of the Cheesecake

Thanks to our friends and the many gift cards they have provided us, we were able to enjoy happy hour at The Cheesecake factory tonight.  I must say, it was the best service that we have received there in years which made it a much more pleasant experience than the past few.  Happy Hour prices were good but as always the menu is too large and overwhelming.  Although we were impressed with the new skinny low calorie menu we both felt like telling them to watch "Restaurant Impossible" with Chef Robert Irvine who always chops the menu's down to 10 or less items.

Not a bad Habit

The Habit burger grill in Fullerton across from CSUF follows the motto, "there's no substitution for quality!" And do they ever produce quality food. Charburgers, grilled sandwiches, salads, sides and shakes all made fresh to order. BAM prefers the sweet potato fries dipped in their delicious ranch. SAM enjoys the chicken sandwich with sautéd mushrooms added on sourdough. Definitely a quality eatery that we will continue to frequent when in the mood for a fresh and non-greasy burger.

FOOD BLOG'S HERE!

We started by "checking in" to all of the local eateries that we would go to and soon realized that all of our friends would comment on how much we ate out and how they would like to try the places we go to.  It smacked BAM in the face and she said, "HEY! We should start a food blog."  So... here you have it, our food blog.  We hope you enjoy as we share our love for food with you.
